"Sustainable agriculture doesn't start and stop with a commitment to allowable and non-allowable materials and practices. Certified Naturally Grown farmers reflect a commitment to work within the natural biological cycles that are necessary for a truly sustainable farming system - a system that works in harmony with micro-organisms, soil flora and fauna, plants and animals, to maintain and increase the long-term fertility of soil, leaving it even more vibrant and alive for the next generation of farmers."
No membership or special fees are required to shop at the Athens Farmers Market.
If you are a local farmer who grows food products in accordance with sustainable farming practices or a local craftsperson, AFM will offers a marketplace for your products beginning in the Spring of 2009.

2. The growers will be required to use sustainable farming methods to be affirmed by signing an affidavit and agreeing to allow a farm inspection. The guidelines for the market’s requirements for sustainable farming are as described by “Certified Naturally Grown”, an alternative certification program that follows the rules set forth by the National Organics Program. Actual certification will be optional.
